GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease) also known as Acid Reflux is a condition in which the acid in the stomach refluxes and rises back into the esophageal tract. When eating, the food is passed from the mouth to the stomach through a tube called the esophagus. At the end of the esophagus, before the opening of the stomach, there is a spiral of muscle known as the lower esophageal sphincter (LES).

If LES function is impaired or the esophageal muscles become weak, the sphincter (sphincter) cannot close properly. This causes the acid and contents in the stomach to rise back (reflux) into the esophagus. The acid in the stomach will cause inflammation in the esophagus. This will cause symptoms such as chest pain and shortness of breath. Stomach acid has a pH that is almost the same as battery acid. When stomach acid hits the esophagus and sometimes rises back into the mouth, it will erode this duct and cause pain. Stomach acid known as gastric acid consists of potassium chloride, sodium chloride and hiroclric acid. Acid is measured in a scale known as pH. This pH scale ranges from 0 to 14. 0 is the most acidic, 7 neutral while 14 is the least acidic or most alkaline. The acid in the human stomach usually ranges from 1 to 3. When at its strongest, stomach acid can be below the battery acid level (scale 0).

How strong acids doesn’t corrode the human stomach?

The human stomach contains a type of cell called an epithelial cell and it serves to protect the stomach. These epithelial cells produce mucus and bicarbonate that line the inside of the stomach. This bicarbonate is a base that will neutralize stomach acid. The mucus produced by these epithelial cells also forms a kind of barrier on the stomach wall and protects against stomach acid. The system usually works perfectly. Some people have problems in the stomach when too much acid is produced. When it does occur, these epithelial cells are sufficient to do the job of protecting the lining of the stomach well. This excess stomach acid can damage parts of the lining of the stomach. Which can cause acid reflux and heartburn.

Symptoms of GERD (Acid Reflux)

The majority of those who suffer from this problem can get well on their own without the need for any treatment. But if this problem occurs over a long period of time, it will be called as Gastroesophageal Disease (GERD).  Some of the symptoms that will occur if they have GERD are:

  • Pain or soreness in the heart
  • Having trouble or difficulty swallowing
  • The stomach feels full even before eating
  • Prolonged cough, especially at night or at bedtime
  • The throat feels sour
  • Chest ache
  • Windy stomach
  • Frequent Burping
  • Difficulty breathing
  • It’s like there’s something in the throat
  • Excessive anxiety
  • The sound gets louder

The severity of GERD depends on the failure of LES function and the type and amount of fluid secreted from the stomach and its effects can neutralize saliva. GERD symptoms such as heartburn and re -vomiting of stomach acid is usually treated with a variety of medications depending on the severity experienced by the patient.

How to treat GERD (Acid Reflux) problems in the safest way?

The answer is less excess acid in the stomach. When the acid in the stomach is reduced, it will not rise back to the esophagus. So,the muscles of the LES part will come back strong. That’s all, there is no other way and the FASTEST, SAFE and EFFECTIVE way is to practice RS24.
